For some people, simply mentioning topics related to the dentist can trigger a strong anxiety reaction with symptoms such as sweating, rapid heartbeat, nausea, dry mouth or hypersalivation, shortness of breath, trembling and other typical anxiety and panic symptoms.
This can cause extreme discomfort for those affected. They avoid paying attention to painful symptoms in their teeth and postpone their dental visit for as long as possible. If forced to go, they may exhibit behaviors that only intensify their anxiety, for example, by deciding to arrive at their study earlier than expected, thus further increasing their fear.
