Kyphosis is a condition where the upper spine curves, resulting in a rounded back or hump. There are three types of kyphosis.

Congenital kyphosis is diagnosed when the spine does not fully develop before birth and is present at birth. It worsens as the child grows.

Postural kyphosis is caused by poor posture and can sometimes be corrected.

Schuermann's kyphosis occurs when the spinal bones grow abnormally and become wedged together.

These forms of kyphosis are often caused by degenerative diseases of the spine such as arthritis or intervertebral disc degeneration, fractures due to osteoporosis compression fractures, and injury trauma.
